He’s one of the best-known soccer players in the world, and with four children it was hoped that at least one of them would follow in his skillful footsteps.

But David Beckham has revealed that his second eldest son Romeo, 13, has ruled out a career as a professional goal scorer and seems to be following his mother’s fashionable lead instead.

The 40-year-old, who is married to clothing designer and former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham, 41, said he had mixed feelings when the pint-sized Burberry fashion model turned to him and said he had another vocation in mind.

The former Manchester United player told the Radio Times Christmas issue: “The other day Romeo turned round to me and said he didn’t want to play football any more. Part of me was devastated but part of me was relieved, too.”

He added: “He’s got other passions and I like that.”

He also hinted that his eldest son, Brooklyn, 16, might also follow Posh’s creative career path saying “photography is his passion” – something that has become evident on his Instagram account, which has more than 5.2 million followers.

However, there’s still hope for 10-year-old Cruz and four-year-old Harper, who have often been spotted kitted out and having a kick around with the clan.

The “Sexiest Man Alive” shared a shot of his little girl wearing pink football boots as she was about to score a goal, in May.

“Harper Seven taking lessons from her brothers (oh and her dad),” he captioned the shot.

And while the retired soccer player is clearly thrilled with her possible career prospects, mother Victoria joked to Good Morning America in September it was like a “dagger through the heart”.

“She loves fashion, you know, as all little girls do but she loves sports. She said to me the other day, ‘Mummy, I think I want to play football.

“Dagger through the heart! I have three boys that want to play football, you know, come on, let one of them want to be into fashion or dance.”   Mia Hamm eat your heart out ⚽️⚽️ Harper Seven taking lessons from her brothers ( oh and her dad ) ❤️A photo posted by David Beckham (@davidbeckham) on Jun 5, 2015 at 2:34am PDT
